Thanks everyone - 1.40.2 and Happy Birthday PDF Print E-mail

Rollback in progress. The input everyone has given on this subject and testing Andrew Linden has done with us and others has revealed the obvious, 1.40.2 was not ready to go live.

I appreciate everyone getting behind this issue and speaking up. I am not against the idea of Havok 7 being introduced to the grid and I am not against the idea of improvements to the quality of life in Second Life.

1.40.2, doesn't seem to have much, if any, improvements at all, other than the H7 implementation and the problems that came associated with it were not worth it.

Anyways, thats our good news for the day, you stood up, you made your voices heard, and Linden Labs finally admitted the glaringly obvious.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY:

To Melanie Milland, CCS co-developer and CTO of Gamma Wave Games, shes older than a stump today. I think. But then, who cares about time when you're a vampire eh? Anyways, if you happen to see her, wish her a happy birthday.

Second Life 1.40.2 - It Sucks...and So Do You IF...... PDF Print E-mail

You don't log into the JIRA and vote on the following issue:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5927

Basically all the lag and errors you saw today? CCS related problems scripted objects in sims not working. All that is a product of the 1.40.2 Server deploy.

So go VOTE, get your friends to vote too. Get your dog to vote. Unless you want Second Life to become more like Still Life, go vote on this issue.

Cause otherwise the freaking Lindens are going to stamp it "working as intended" and I'm sorry, if they do that, there will be absolutely nothing we can do, or the weapon developers in Second Life can do, to fix it.

The following is an excerpt of the logic we are dealing with. You tell me who is making sense in it. Cause maybe I'm just CRAZY.

[11:52]  Maestro Linden: I wonder if it was a transient issue after the restart
[11:52]  Suzanna Soyinka: The issues as it occurred last time you all rolled this out were intermittent as well
[11:52]  Suzanna Soyinka: This is the same pattern as two weeks ago
[11:53]  Suzanna Soyinka: When you tried to roll 1.40 out and had to roll it back
[11:53]  Maestro Linden: between 1.40.0 and 1.40.2, there was a physics performance fix that made a big improvement in certain regions
[11:54]  Suzanna Soyinka: We were seeing, at that time, 60% loss in collision reporting and communication fall offs of unprecedented levels, in conjunction with sim and script performance taking a gigantic dive and the associated other issues, home locations reporting as unavailable when sims are up people getting sent to Ahern and Korea, its the same pattern of events.
[11:55]  Suzanna Soyinka: Now we have the 1.40.2 roll out and the same issues are being reported with the same variables involved.
[11:57]  Maestro Linden: I'm not terribly surprised about home locations and TPs being broken for ~30min after regions restart on a mass scale (such as we have this morning), but the sim performance problem could be an issue
[11:58]  Maestro Linden: scripts are the first thing that get throttled when sim performance is bad, so that probably explains the missed LSL collision events
[11:58]  Suzanna Soyinka: Problem is Maestro
[11:58]  Suzanna Soyinka: You guys are in a certain level of denial here
[11:58]  Suzanna Soyinka: Sim performance can be bad with 6 people in a sim
[11:58]  Suzanna Soyinka: Because of the 3 other sims on the server with it
[11:58]  Suzanna Soyinka: So...you have a sim with 6 people on it
[11:59]  Suzanna Soyinka: Nothing works
[11:59]  Suzanna Soyinka: Cause the other 3 sims are running horribly.
[11:59]  Suzanna Soyinka: So the scripts get throttled
[11:59]  Suzanna Soyinka: In a region where 6 people are trying to do whatever
[11:59]  Suzanna Soyinka: If you're throttling scripts when region performance is bad
[12:00]  Suzanna Soyinka: LA is...well, out the window entirely, 4 year old RP community, one of the oldest contiguous communities on the grid, server performance is ALWAYS bad cause its always busy.
[12:00]  Maestro Linden: yes that's true, to some extent (more so with openspace/homestead than full regions.

Is this what you want? You want your Second Life experience lagged out and throttled by shit thats not even going on in the region you're in? Its definitely not what I want, so...go vote, seriously.

As Promised - The New Double XP Policy PDF Print E-mail
Written by Suzanna
Saturday, 26 June 2010 02:00

The new Double XP Policy is now available for viewing for sim owner admins and sim groups that wish to finance double XP periods for the sims they are resident in.

Just as a note, only a registered admin for a sim may schedule double XP on a region, the sim owner specifically does not have to make the request, but an administrative member of the sim must make the request.

So have a read of the new Double XP Policy, and see the changes to the requirements for availability and understand its new uses and applications.

And as stated in the notice, network wide double XP starts at 12PM SL Time today, ending at 12PM SL Time Sunday, all sims in the CCS network will benefit and it is being done in celebration of the return of Phillip Linden and the finalization of CCS v1.0.2.

Have fun all!

EPIC FAIL At Linden Labs, Once Again in regards to DMCA and Copyright policies. PDF Print E-mail

Well if you haven't heard about it already, Maxwell Graf of Rustica Home Furnishings is deleting his sim due to a gigantic failure on Linden Lab's part to fully pursue and prosecute a DMCA claim against another Second Life user that has been stealing his designs.

Well, regardless of the Lindens incompetence since this directly involves at least four CCS enabled sims you can be damn sure WE are not incompetent and WE will stand up for Maxwell Graf even though we don't even know him, where the Lindens have failed to do so.

The owners of the sims in question have been contacted by me and I've made a demand that all offending materials in their sim built by the accused user be removed, up to and including the entire build on the sim if necessary.

The accused user has also been permanently banned from CCS and his IP has been blacklisted at the subnet level.

The sims in question will be rebuilt or have rebuild plans in my hands by the end of the weekend or the sims will no longer be CCS active.

I will stand up and do the right thing where the Lindens have failed....yet again, to do the same. CCS stands for originality, creativity and the individual rights and creative copyrights of all developers in Second Life and we will not allow this to go without answer at the level we can address it at.

We can't ban the user from Second Life, but we can ban him from CCS, we can't get the alleged stolen work out of his inventory, but we can get it off sims we provide service to.

So thats what we're going to do. Any sim thats had any builds done by the defendant in this DMCA dispute should remove the offending content immediately, I will be watching and waiting to see if other sims come up as sims that are using builds made by this individual and the same stance will be taken with every sim that is affected by this. You will return the build and rebuild, or you will find another combat system, no matter how much I like you or how good a relationship we've had over the last 3 - 4 years.

CCS will stand up where the Lindens refuse to do so. Because in this situation we can. The builds will be removed, or the sims will be removed.

Shame on you Linden Labs. Making me do your job for you.
